The georgia tech football roster team is a Division I college football team representing Georgia Tech. New Offensive Coordinator
Georgia Tech has hired Chip Long to be the new offensive coordinator. Long has a long coaching history at different universities, including Notre Dame and Tulane. He will replace Dave Patenaude, who was fired after a 3-9 season and six straight losses. Long has 16 years of Division I coaching experience and has five years of experience as an offensive coordinator. He has guided teams to average over 39 points per game at both Memphis and Notre Dame.
The offensive line is a problem area for Tech. The team was without a full-time tackle for much of last season. The offensive line got a boost with the signing of former Alabama tackle Pierce Quick, who was rated a Rivals 100 lineman three cycles ago but only saw limited action with the Crimson Tide. Tech also added 6-foot-5 Kansas tackle Corey Robinson II and Clemson guard/tackle Paul Tchio.
In addition to Turner, Georgia Tech added veteran assistant Kenyatta Watson to its supporting staff. The team also added David Turner as its defensive run game coordinator. Despite the high turnover, Jeff Sims returns as the team’s quarterback.
New Quarterback
The Georgia Tech football roster is full of new faces this year. Head coach Geoff Collins has made some nice moves this offseason. Several key starters have left the program, but Tech has also added some new starters. The team is also filled with different faces from last season, when it went 3-9.
Tech made some moves to improve the talent on the offensive line. The program added former Alabama tackle Pierce Quick, who was a Rivals100 lineman three cycles ago. However, he played sparingly with the Crimson Tide. The Yellow Jackets also added Kentucky guard R.J. Adams and 6-foot-5 Kansas tackle Corey Robinson II.
Another change for Georgia Tech’s offense is the new quarterback. Jeff Sims led the Yellow Jackets last season, but he battled injuries throughout his sophomore season. His backup, Jordan Yates, was unable to match his production. Meanwhile, Tech’s defense failed to offer much tangible support. The Yellow Jackets struggled to defend through the air and the ground.
New Offensive Lineman
The Yellow Jackets have added four new offensive lineman to their roster. Three are plug and play players, while the fourth is a transfer from Clemson. The big name signing is Pierce Quick, a former Rivals100 lineman who played sparingly for the Alabama Crimson Tide last season. Corey Robinson II and Jordan Williams are the other two newcomers to the offensive line.
The offensive line has been one of Tech’s biggest weaknesses over the past few seasons. While it was a solid run-blocking unit last year, it struggled terribly at pass-blocking. As a result, it has a lot to prove this year, and the team needs some help at the position. With Ryan Johnson and Devin Cochran gone, Tech has been busy trying to find new offensive line help in the transfer portal.
Jordan Williams played at left tackle in his sophomore season, starting nine games. He started in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and was named to the Phil Steele All-SEC fourth-team. He was also named a co-winner of the Special Teams Most Improved Player award and named to the J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Honor Roll.
New Defensive End
The Yellow Jackets are restocking their football roster with new faces on the defensive line. After losing two defensive line starters last year, Tech is looking to bolster the position with newcomers. Two of its top defensive linemen have left, but the young guys have been waiting for their chance. The Yellow Jackets have been busy in the transfer portal, and they could add more players to the roster in the future.
The team has added one new defensive end to its roster, a transfer from Alabama. The 2021 class has a wide range of options with this addition. Despite his size, he could slot into either end position. However, he may need to work on developing pass-rush moves, as he tends to get hung up on blockers.
Sims has a chance to be a key factor in georgia tech football roster offensive success this season. However, he must stay healthy.
