During Bobby Dodd’s tenure at Tech, the Yellow Jackets won six straight bowl games. That includes three Sugar Bowls, the Orange Bowl, and the Cotton Bowl. During that stretch, Tech became one of the premier bowl programs in college football. That stretch of success began in the 1950s when Tech was led by coach Bobby Dodd.

King’s involvement in Tech football didn’t end with graduation. He later joined Ciraldo in the radio booth, and he recounts the school’s struggles following Dodd’s retirement. After Dodd’s departure, the team was led by Bill Curry, a first-year coach. Later, Bobby Ross had two disastrous seasons before his breakthrough season, leading the Yellow Jackets to their fourth national championship. Later, Bill Lewis stepped down and was replaced by George O’Leary. Today, he is the radio color commentator for Tech football.

John Heisman coached Georgia Tech from 1904 to 1919. He won 102 games at Tech, including a national championship. During Heisman’s tenure, Tech’s stadium, Grant Field, was built entirely by students. Heisman sought revenge for Tech’s defeat to Cumberland College, a team that used professional ringers to beat Tech. The resulting game was a 220-0 thrashing of Cumberland College.

In addition to hosting the Tech sideline podcast, Carter writes feature stories for HokieSports and hosts the Virginia Tech podcast with Jack Brizendine. He has also broadcast seven different sports for 3304 Sports. He also played summer collegiate baseball for the Tarboro River Bandits of the Premier Collegiate League. The podcast crew also discusses the men’s loss to UNC and the women’s ACC Tournament. It’s a great time to be a Tech fan.
