Dunkin Donuts Old Fashioned Donut – It’s that time of year again, time to dig into that hot, sweet, and mouth-watering Christmas cake that you’ve been neglecting. If you are like me, you have a tendency to leave out your trusted old stand by gift of chocolate. Instead, you go all out for coffee and sugary sweets. If you aren’t careful, your Christmas dessert can taste like the cheap food from the supermarket aisle.
I like my donuts light and fluffy, but still rich enough to send merriment down my throat. This year I decided to try out some of the new donuts from dunkin donuts with a light caramel coffee icing. I’m not normally a heavy coffee drinker, but with the addition of a donut I found that it was easier to enjoy a glass of coffee with the donuts. So, here is my quick and easy guide to a wonderful light, rich caramel coffee donut.
The secret to enjoying dunkin donuts with a little more panache is to make less dough. If you cook normal donuts with a tablespoon or two of butter in the dry ingredients, about one third of the batter needs to be made up of butter. Instead of using three or four tablespoons of butter in the dough, use less. Less than one half cup is the magic number. With less calories and less fat, you lose weight!
I prefer my donuts light and airy, so I adjusted my double-stretched doughnut recipe to reflect this change. Instead of using three parts butter, I used one. Using less flour made the batter light and lightly flaky. This was a very slight adjustment, but the results were astonishing; my old fashioned donuts were light, but still had plenty of calories and fat.
Since I was trying to lose weight, cutting calories didn’t affect me very much. The fact that I was eating less doughnuts didn’t help much either. The trick to minimizing calories and fat with donuts is to make them as light as possible without sacrificing the texture, which is something you can’t do with Dunkin Donuts old fashioned donut recipes. By reducing the amount of butter, the crispiness of the top layer of doughnuts will come back, making them delicious without having to reduce the amount of calories and fat.
My next experiment was to try and recreate the Dunkin donuts old fashioned donut. The secret was to add less butter and less sugar. It was much easier than I thought it would be. In the process, I did reduce some calories, which helped my weight loss efforts. Although there were still many calories in the mix, I was able to reduce them significantly and, thanks to the fact that I was eating an apple, I did not feel as guilty about it as I once did.
The final part of my plan involved the use of coconut oil. Coconut oil is great for lowering your calories, which means that the lighter version of the donut could actually be better for you than the heavy version. I reduced the fat in my original donut recipe and replaced it with coconut oil. I also reduced the sugar and increased the butter. There were still many calories in the mix, but significantly less than my old fashioned counterparts. By creating a healthier version of the donut, it became more enjoyable and it was a lot of fun to eat these delicious donuts.
If you are looking for a great, healthy, low fat, delicious treat to have with breakfast, lunch, or dinner, consider trying a newer, healthier version of a Dunkin Donuts old fashioned donut. You can easily find a variety of donuts that are great for reducing calories and fat in the American diet. Many of these donuts are made from ingredients that are good for you and can actually help you to lose weight.
