Memphis, Tennessee’s legendary Sun Records opened in 1952. The legendary recording studio is credited with recording the first hits of Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley. Bill Haley and His Saddlemen were renaming Bill Haley and the Comets in 1953 and became more popular as Bill and the Comets. In 1958, a music festival in Memphis dubbed “The Moondog Coronation Ball” was shut down due to an overflowing crowd. In fact, it was one of the riots known as the “Rock and Roll Riots.”
